Abstract
In principle, the word "theater" is very broad, very generous. The act of teaching theater is fundamentally tied to where one stands—to how one has been culturally shaped and constituted within the theatrical universe. Some may believe that theater takes one form rather than another. Others—perhaps drawing on past experiences—might even think that there is a "proper" kind of theater and another that is not. Certain theorists distinguish between them based on procedures, production strategies, or aesthetic outcomes.
