Abstract

I say the culprit was The Elephant Man. When I first saw a television play starring Víctor Mallarino and an actress whose name I can't recall, one scene captivated and shocked me: a circus owner was advertising with a banner depicting a monstrous fat man, whom the public could see for a few coins. Imagine my surprise when our well-known actor appeared playing the flabby freak! How strange! So this was theater! Not those anachronistic puppets that made me wonder where the clown had gone!
