Abstract
If we understand that the comedic effect provokes a release of tension, inhibitions, and other prohibitions, which requires preparation on the part of the actor, and if we accept that its expression is laughter, a communicative outcome that requires at least a spectator who is drawn into a reaction, then the comedic effect is the culmination of humor. It can be the disruption of an entire action, through a word or gesture that engages and surprises the audience.
