Instructions for authors

Are you interested in publishing in Papel Escena journal? We recommend reviewing the about page to consult the journal's section policies, as well as the Manuscript Submission section. Authors must register with the journal before publishing or, if already registered, can simply log in and begin the five-step process.
Articles are accepted on the understanding that they are original data from research projects duly approved by the relevant Institutional Review Committees and that they have not been simultaneously submitted to another journal.
Authors should remember that the publishing process is based on healthy competition. It is not enough for an article to be “acceptable,” “good,” or “correct”; it must be interesting, original, and scientifically rigorous.

Manuscripts must be written in a clear, concise, and coherent manner. Manuscripts that do not follow the instructions indicated in the sections on manuscript submission and structure and type of articles will be returned for correction without review.

By submitting a manuscript, authors agree that the copyright for the manuscript is automatically transferred to Papel Escena magazine upon acceptance for publication.

The results of peer review may be: Acceptance; Acceptance conditional on adjustments; Revise and resubmit for a future call for papers; and Rejection.

Acceptance: the article must present the research problem clearly. The author must discuss, with a reflective and critical stance, the scientific literature related to artistic studies; the document must clearly establish the theoretical background and research method and articulate them in all sections of the article. If tables and figures are used, they must be clear and discussed in the text. The bibliography must be cited in the article and be up to date (last 8 years). In terms of form, it must have a clear structure and wording with appropriate language and apply APA standards.
Acceptance conditional on adjustments: these are documents that meet the acceptance criteria described above but need improvement in some aspect of form and/or content. The evaluation form has a space for comments in which the evaluator specifies the changes and suggestions that authors should take into account in order for their articles to be accepted.

Revise and resubmit for consideration in a future call for papers: although the article presents a relevant and novel topic, substantial revisions are required in terms of approach, structure, analysis of results, or development of the argument. It is considered to have potential as a publishable article if the authors follow the recommendations.
Rejected: the article has one or more of the following characteristics: it lacks a defined structure, the writing is sloppy, there is no thematic connection or articulation between sections. APA standards are not applied. The conclusions are poor or absent.

Once the evaluation has been received, the Editorial Committee shall send the results to the authors. In the case of “Acceptance conditional on adjustments,” authors have fifteen (15) calendar days to submit the improved version with the suggested changes.

Manuscript preparation

Cover sheet: Each article should have a cover sheet that includes:

Title of the article
Authors' names, academic degrees (university where they studied + city + country), work affiliation (institution where they work + position held + city + country), correspondence address (including telephone and e-mail) and ORCID.
Curricular data (300 words maximum).

Note: This journal uses the ORCID® persistent digital identifier as a standardization system for authorship. The journal also requests that authors indicate the contribution made by each author as established in  CRediT – Contributor Role Taxonomy.

It should be on a separate sheet from the body of the document to preserve the identity of the authors, at the time it is sent to peers. This document should be uploaded as an annex.

References: the latest edition of the APA guidelines should be followed.

Tables: Tables should be presented in Word table format, numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals and accompanied by a title. All tables should be self-explanatory and should supplement the text, not duplicate it. They should be included within the text, after the mention in the text. They should not contain vertical lines inside the table.

Figures: All illustrative material should be considered as a figure and should be presented separately. All figures should be mentioned in the text and numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals. Figures and figure legends should be included within the document. In addition, each figure should be sent in a separate file, without the caption, in JPG format with a resolution of no less than 300 dpi, all figures should be in the same proportion or scale.

Authors will receive a PDF of their article for approval before publication.

Note:  If you use artificial intelligence to improve or write your article, you must place a note in the body of the document stating so.
