Abstract
The School of Theater, affiliated with the Conservatory of Music, may well have been founded in 1936, when the renowned interpreter of Lorca’s works, Margarita Xirgú, visited Cali during her tour of this part of the continent. Antonio María Valencia had already seen her perform in Bogotá in Lope de Vega’s *La dama boba* (The Lady Simpleton). On that occasion, he wrote in the program: "Tonight has awakened in me an unexpected sense of the world and of the human being."
