Abstract

I have made it a priority to ensure that the student who comes to this Conservatory to dedicate themselves to music—for instance—does not focus their attention solely on that discipline. A general education is required here, or at least a foundation in it. For I always tell them: the person who devotes themselves exclusively to music will always be a poor musician. An artist must learn to appreciate painting and sculpture, to distinguish poetry from bad literature, and to possess a body of knowledge that enables them to form a clear understanding of art.
