Abstract
For any institution, half a century of existence is a cause for celebration and profound joy. Yet we would agree that this joy is all the greater when the institution in question has dedicated that long span of time to the quixotic task of keeping alive—within the spirit of a region and a nation—the wondrous *duende* that dwells in the art of drama. It is a spirit that, born alongside humanity itself, has over the millennia contributed a vital element of formation and continuity to the history of all cultures.
