Abstract

The honorable samurai Inamuraya Taketsura was asleep, fast asleep, and sleeping with a clear conscience... until an unexpected disturbance turned his delightful dream into a terrible nightmare that unleashed his wrath and a death sentence. Who will pay the price for such a disturbance? His servant Seiki? Or perhaps one of his daughters? Or maybe the old cherry tree growing behind the house?

The Flying Cherry Tree is a tale by an anonymous author that draws on the Japanese tradition of the ancient samurai warriors, whose banner was courage and keeping one's word as a principle of honor, duty above desire.
